Deep sadness in US basketball: Amir Abdur-Rahim, head coach of the South Florida Bulls, has died at the age of just 43. The University of South Florida announced that the college coach died due to complications during a medical procedure.

“He was authentic, committed and his infectious personality captivated the entire Bulls Nation. “Coach Abdur-Rahim leaves a lasting impression on our athletes, the university and the community,” said Florida University athletic director Michael Kelly, expressing his sadness and appreciation.

Abdur-Rahim was considered an up-and-coming coach in college basketball. Last season, he led the South Florida Bulls to their first American Athletic Conference title and was named Coach of the Year.

“Always inspired by his leadership”

University President Rhea Law was also saddened by Abdur-Rahim’s sudden death: “In a very short period of time, Coach Abdur-Rahim has had a lasting impact on the University of South Florida. Throughout my association with him, I was continually inspired by his leadership and admired his genuine approach to engaging with our entire student body.”

Amir Abdur-Rahim leaves behind his wife Arianne and three children. His older brother Shareef was active in the NBA from 1996 to 2008 and played for the Vancouver Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, among others.
