This season, something new has appeared in the U13, U15 and U17 departmental and regional basketball championships. So to speak, because Punch Nancy is not really a partridge of the year in the small world of local sport. On the other hand, he has just made his debut under the baskets.
On the ground, all is well! The teams trained by the duo Ahmadou Keita – Stéphane Duvoid even made a sensational entry on the boards. However, the creation of the section, whose birth is intimately linked to the establishment of the academy led by the former SLUC pro, had a little more trouble than expected to see the light of day, on the brand new parquet floor. of the gymnasium of Lycée Pierre de Coubertin in Nancy.
Its director, Alain Hénin goes back through the story: “Ahmadou Keita was looking for a gymnasium for his academy. Together, we launched a global reflection on basketball. Among our many sports sections, we have a basketball section in high school. The creation of a basketball section at Punch allowed young people from the academy to play in the league. And everyone was there. However, our first affiliation request sent to the French federation via the departmental committee was refused. We had to appeal to the CNOSF and the administrative tribunal ”.

The Punch has especially modified its statutes, which allowed it to finally receive the affiliation, a week before the start of the championships. Today, the two-headed entity has about forty graduates, twenty of whom are residents of the academy. And Ahmadou Keita has found a starting point for his project, which now only asks to grow: “for young basketball players, the academy is an alternative solution to training centers and poles. The objective is to train young people at a level higher than that of the associative environment. To allow them possibly to integrate a training center or to become pro ”.
