With 100 more members than four years ago, the ASBG has regained its membership and its ambitions. Young people get involved in the supervision of the little ones.
Luc Salanié, the president of the Gaillac Basketball Sports Association (ASBG), has a few reasons to smile. Four years ago, when he took the presidency, the club had 130 licensees, it has 225 today. Far from attributing the paternity of this growth to himself, he gives the credit to his team.
The dynamism is born from the youth. There are 70 children under the age of eleven who practice at Oisel, and the ASBG has completed its reception system by creating this year a “microbasket” section, from four and a half to six years old, with two groups of children where the main idea is to promote play, in the sense of fun, but with a spirit of competition all the same. “During the set organized in Castres with Santa Claus, the two teams remained undefeated”. The framework has been reinforced. “Thomas, a parent of players, has just passed his diploma in the department of educator for children and Lucas, a U147, also passed it to be a youth educator”. For two years, the ASBG has been working to train parents to hold the brand tables. Séverine Combes Assier, Gwladys Ruelle and Mathieu Lespinasse are working on it. The parents’ group is getting more and more involved, to the point that the club has one official per team. Raphaël and Illias have a State Certificate to accompany the teams, from u9 to seniors.
Objective: a citizen label
Esteban, another U17, is training as a referee and Mélody, a senior, is preparing for the State Certificate to coach young people up to U17. She already supervises the U15s. Training is therefore the watchword of the ASBG, where, in all categories, the numbers are on the rise.
The club is also involved in civic actions: a banner erected in the gymnasium bears witness to this. “ASBG is the fulfillment of each person while respecting others”. The aim is to obtain the federal label on the citizen club. “Achieving this requires concrete actions and respect for values such as hospitality, solidarity, tolerance, respect for opponents and referees. This is a message that we send every day”. On February 12, in agreement with the town hall, the ASBG will host my departmental finals of the Panier d’Or, a competition reserved for U11s and the Challenge Benjamin, dedicated to U13s. These competitions will also be a celebration of Tarn basketball and the recognition of ASBG’s know-how in terms of organization.
