The tragedy happened at a barbecue in New York. On Monday, shots rang out suddenly and the police found nine people with gunshot wounds. Darius Lee was taken to the nearby hospital with serious injuries, but only his death could be determined there.

So far, nothing is known about the situation of the other victims or the perpetrator. The basketball world is already in deep mourning. Houston Huskies head coach Ron Cottrell searches for words on Twitter. He writes “We are all in shock and cannot believe this news.”

The basketball coach says his heart is broken and expresses deepest sympathy for the deceased’s mother and sister. “Lee wasn’t just a great basketball player, he was an even better person. All I can think about is what a light Darius was. It was a pleasure to coach him, we all loved him very much.”

Nearing bachelor’s degree and key player

Darius Lee was still studying at Houston Baptist University. He was well on his way to completing his bachelor’s degree next December. He was the top scorer on his team and recorded the most rebounds per game. He was recently named Male Student-Athlete of the Year by HBU.
