Heidelberg (dpa) – Newcomers MLP Academics Heidelberg has caused the second surprise in the basketball Bundesliga.
Four days after the 85:74 opening win at Syntainics MBC, the weakly staffed team of trainer Branislav Ignjatovic prevailed with 73:67 (39:33) against last year’s main round champion MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. It was the first Bundesliga home game after 36 years of abstinence. “I’m proud to the sky,” said coach Ignjatovic at “Magenta Sport”
In addition to the Heidelbergers, the Chemnitz Niners and Telekom Baskets Bonn also held themselves harmless. The Saxons had their second victory before. They won at the Hamburg Towers with 90:82 (38:41). The most accurate thrower was Darion Atkins with 17 points. The guests turned the game around after half-time thanks to a 7-0 run and never gave up their lead.
