Two stops, two shots, the first minute is Garonne 5-0. The yellows took the match in the right direction, but the visitors did not come to watch the redemption of the locals. Lissalt and Dauphoud show that they have basketball and above all skill. The two teams exchange loose balls and fast play, going blow for blow. When Lopez and Auriol attack from afar, Monfort and Larrey are happy to respond 14-14 (7th). With each acceleration of the yellows (26-19, 9th), the visitors find the solution to come back.
Lopez and Ricard find the distance and give GAB 9 lengths ahead, but this is the moment where Monblanc begins his show with 14 points in the period. Nothing seems to stop him, in the drive or especially from afar. It takes all the strength of Kone and Lopez to regain a gap, but it continues to diminish. After leading by 11 points, GAB found itself at 48-47 (18th). It takes all the knowledge of the game from Ricard and Jones to reach the lemons with a slight viaticum (53-47). Both teams offer very high level basketball with total commitment on both sides of the court. Defenses change and so do offensive solutions. Each coach tries to put his team into orbit with some success, but the opponent’s response turns everything upside down.
Electric atmosphere
At the restart, if Kone is the first to score, the Landais equalize once again at 55 all. Monblanc continues his work from afar just like Lopez, but the defenses only leave crumbs and the game suffers. In this game, Horsarrieu takes the lead with Lissalt who makes 3 baskets, just stopped by Réal. The GAB finds itself in the same position as last week with a slight delay at the start of the last period. This is the moment chosen by Jason Jones to impose his physique in the racket. On the post-up, he cut up the Blues defense, forcing Rémy Condéranne to take a time out to reorganize his team. Djimassal scores just like Lopez (75-74), but the atmosphere is charged with electricity, the two teams are on the verge of breakdown.
“We are progressing, we see it at the end of the match when we convert what the defense”
YombII misses his two free throws and Acker makes his fourth foul on the rebound. There are six minutes left to play and the precious giant must leave his family temporarily. Ricard then hits a triple which hits the mark and Djimassal does it again. The defenses continue to leave few spaces, but Auriol then Kone will find a mouse hole to feed the scoreboard (82-76). Monfort manages to score from afar, while Jones missed one of his free throws. There was 1’31 remaining when Acker made his last foul, giving two shots converted by Jones. The blues are trying everything, but have lost their address. It ended with a final basket from Jones who ended up the game’s top scorer with 21 points.
The GAB can exult and the public also because the “Halloween” scenario gave a hard time and stress to the spectators delighted to see the victory of theirs.
Reactions
Adrien Ferrer (Garonne AB coach): “I congratulated them because there was a text explanation this week on their commitment and since then they responded to me on the court because they were very good in the effort and in their basketball. It’s a very talented group, but oh so difficult to bring with me. We are progressing, we see it at the end of the match when we convert what the defense leaves us while Horsarrieu does not convert what we leave them, it’s encouraging. »
Rémy Condéranne (ASCH coach): “The match is played at the very end, in the last four minutes where our skill escapes us while we have open shots. They found a few solutions and the whistles didn’t help us either. In the end, 8 points is a high price to pay. I’m very proud of my team because coming here and doing what we did is good even if in the end there is a little frustration. But at -11 we didn’t give in, on the contrary, we went ahead. There was room to do better. »
