Libreville, December 30, 2023 (AGP) – Gladiators lifted the Gabon Super Cup last Friday, “Albert Nomsi”, thanks to its success against Espoir BC (75-73), at the end of a fairly close match, we observed.
This opposition has become a classic of its kind in Gabonese basketball circles. And the change in name of Gladiators, formerly Clash Time, has hardly changed the contours of a rivalry which is clearly not ready to fade away.
This umpteenth reunion between the reigning Gabon champion, Gladiators and the winner of the Gabon Cup, Espoir BC has, once again, kept all its promises. The public responded and the show did indeed take place in the gymnasium of the National Léon Mba high school, despite the few approximations and blunders observed on both sides at the start of the first quarter. With only six points scored after four minutes of play by the two teams probably still adjusting.
The confrontation subsequently escalated and the address responded at the end of a second quarter ending with a parity score (33-33). The mano a mano continued during the final two acts, although Gladiators, led by a Ndoh Mapangou of the great evenings and MVP of the meeting, ended up winning at the end of the debates (75-73). At the same time winning his first trophy of the season.
A start to the season also marked at the end of this part by the delivery of sports equipment to all the teams involved in this new adventure.
“Our wish at the level of the Gabonese Basketball Federation is to increase the volume of play of Gabonese youth in terms of basketball. The Super Cup, Albert Nomsi, is there to respond to this project with our other competitions. In our vision, we want to organize this Gabon Super Cup in Port-Gentil for future editions to honor the memory of the passionate and visionary Albert Nomsi. We hope that the big basketball family in Port-Gentil will welcome this event with open arms next year,” indicated the president of the Gabonese Basketball Federation, Willy Conrad Asseko.
“It’s an honor for the family. In the Ogooué-Maritime province, everyone is waiting for this competition. The family will participate with the Federation to make this competition a real success,” guaranteed Jacques Lord Nomsi, brother of the late Albert Nomsi.
