The Promethea-AEK match was episodic, with incidents inside the stadium and the evacuation of the stands by “Enos” fans with the intervention of the MAT. The evacuation was a condition of the referees in order for the match to end normally, without further drama. There had been repeated warnings from the referees, but also fruitless appeals from AEK people to stop the insults. The “horseshoe” was evacuated after a number of small pieces fell from the MAT men. The match was over after 2.5 hours.
AEK finished the match without coach Dragan Sakota, who was sent off with a second technical penalty early in the fourth period. Earlier, the referees ordered an associate of AEK owner Makis Angelopoulos, who was present on the field, to be removed from the field. The president of KAE Alexis Alexiou issued a statement of protest, speaking of “abusive and highly offensive treatment”.
