“We have to process this first”

“We have to deal with that first. It’s disappointing and sad. Now something has to be changed in the club,” said Gießen’s professional Bjarne Kraushaar at Magentasport.

The game in the Gießen-Ost sports hall was decided by a weak second quarter of the hosts. The club only scored four points and didn’t come back into the game even after the change of sides. Still, the fans applauded. “Of course that’s a pleasure, but the disappointment outweighs it,” explained Kraushaar.

Paulding leads Oldenburg to victory when saying goodbye

Meanwhile, club legend Rickey Paulding led EWE Baskets Oldenburg to a clear victory in his last home game. The 39-year-old scored 18 points against s.Oliver Würzburg in a clear 113:87 (63:38) win and was celebrated for several minutes when he was substituted shortly before the end by the 6,000 spectators with standing ovations. “It was very emotional. I have no words for it,” said the American at Magentasport.

Even before the game there was a big paulding choreography with the inscription “15 years of loyalty – threes, dunks & heart and soul – thank you Rickey”. “I actually tried to focus on the game, but of course I looked at it. Unbelievable,” enthused Paulding, who came to Oldenburg from the French league in 2007.

The crowd favorite from the USA has been playing for Lower Saxony for 15 years and won the 2009 championship and the 2015 cup with the club. He is now the second-best scorer in Bundesliga history. Paulding will play for the last time in the Bundesliga in Ludwigsburg on Sunday because the club clearly missed the playoffs. There will also be a Paulding farewell game in Oldenburg on June 4th.
