The first minutes are complicated for a Burgundian team which is struggling to establish its offensive game by increasing the number of lost balls. Despite this messy start, Laurent Legname’s men quickly got back into the game, relying on the talent of David Holston to open the points counter.
The maestro is perfectly supported by his friend Axel Julien to put Christian Sengfelder into orbit. The German interior is untenable in this first quarter by punishing Bressans’ oversights in the paint while making the three-point powder speak.
On the other side of the floor, the Dijonnais offer enormous defensive aggressiveness which forces the Bressans to increase the number of forced shots. This first quarter is positive for the visitors even if the players from the City of Dukes could have widened a larger gap but the long distance failures as well as the loss of balls limit the latter to 4 points (16-20).
In the second quarter the “mano a mano” continues between the two teams. The Bressans finally found rhythm in attack by relying on the talent of Ngouama as well as a long distance skill found before the break.
For their part, the Burgundians continue to string together baskets in the racket thanks to the skill of their interiors (Ware / McDuffie / Sengfelder / Dokossi). The Dijon attack is also fueled by the good passage of Robin Ducote coming off the bench as well as the talent of the eternal David Holston who finds the path to the basket from mid-distance. Fred Fauthoux’s players knew how to perfectly exploit Burgundy’s ball losses by converting them into baskets on a rapid attack.
The visitors are up against the wall but they will manage to get back into the game thanks to the talent of Joshua Obiesie who strings together big shots. The winger is perfectly complemented by the energy and vision of Allan Dokossi who multiplies the points on offensive rebounds. The Burgundian comeback will be punctuated by the composure and skill of David Holston.
Laurent Legname’s men will even have the opportunity to go in front before the buzzer but McDuffie will miss one of his three free throws and Kyler Edwards still does not set the three-point target. As you will have understood, the scenario of this meeting will be decided in overtime (80-80).
In the money-time, the two teams continue to go blow for blow but one man will decide to close the debates. David Holston dons his MVP costume by sending two consecutive long-distance bombs in the last minute to finish off the Bressans in front of their home crowd.
