Cologne (SID) – The BG Göttingen got terribly under the wheels after its strong start to the new season of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). At the Hamburg Towers, Lower Saxony, leaders of the table before the 7th matchday, went down on Sunday with 46:83 (30:42).
Defending champion Alba Berlin had no trouble at 92:72 (49:39) over Syntainics MBC Weißenfels. Former series champion Brose Bamberg won at bottom light Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt 77:72 (45:34) and, like Hamburg, celebrated their fifth win in the seventh game.
The Towers are the new front runners ahead of Telekom Baskets Bonn, who beat s.Oliver Würzburg 87:79 (47:35) on Saturday, and Bamberg (all 10: 4 points). Alba (8: 6) is only tenth despite the success.
Göttingen was already clearly behind at the break and got four points in the third quarter (4:24). Hamburg around top scorer Jaylon Brown (22 points) continued to pull away in the last ten minutes. The best throwers from Berlin were Marcus Eriksson and Luke Sikma (19 each).
