Basketball: 16 years old and already 2.19 m, Frenchman Victor Wembanyama promised to make history

Victor Wembanyama, born January 4, 2004 in Chesnay, Yvelines, plays as a pivot and begins basketball at Entente Le Chesnay-Versailles, after having practiced football and judo. He is the brother of Eve Wenbanyama, also a basketball player and U16 European champion in 2017.

He arrived at the Nanterre 92 club at the age of 10. At 11, he measures 1.91 m, and wins the world minibasket in Bourbourg with the U11 team from Nanterre. In spring 2017, he won a U13 tournament (TIC) with the Hauts-de-Seine selection at the age of 13. He won the title of champion of France U15 in 2018 then joined the training center at the end of his season.

With the “hopes” team of Nanterre 92, Victor Wembanyama accumulates 10.1 points per game. He is the best blocker in the championship at the end of the first leg (3.1 blocks per game).

Following his good results with the “hopes” team of Nanterre 92, coach Pascal Donnadieu summons him, on October 26, 2019, for his first match with the professional workforce of Nanterre, on the occasion of the reception d’Orléans (defeat 63-68). However, it does not come into play.
