“The organization of the team should be improved”

« For a first participation, we were not unworthy and acquired valuable experience. The two African teams recorded two victories. Basketball is evolving and the United States, who are the masters of the discipline, finished fourth, while Spain and France are the two finalists. We found many shortcomings during this participation, which we will have to correct in the future. The World Cup is high level. On the organizational side, efforts must be made both in team management and in training. We are only three in the technical staff, a coach, an assistant and a doctor, which is not at all comparable to other teams which have at least 8 people. The preparation was not up to the event. Size wasn’t really a problem, because we have size players. We have learned lessons from this World Cup.

“Malagasy basketball needs an effective strategy from the ground up »

“Finishing 14th out of 16 is already a big step for Malagasy basketball in its first participation in a World Cup. We recognize that there is a level difference. The World Cup is at a higher level, it’s high level. We learned a lot on the spot. Malagasy basketball needs an effective technical and tactical strategy from the grassroots level to develop world-class players. Malagasy basketball has potential, but there is still a long way to go to compete with the other participating teams. In basketball, there is no difference between a coach for women and men; what matters is the passion and love for this discipline. If these two elements guide us, everything happens naturally”.
