Basic services. Orange Cameroon invests 79 million in Atok

The company made a contribution to the establishment of an Orange village, thus offering better learning conditions to students in this locality in the Eastern region, as well as better health care.

The district of Atok in the Haut Nyong department, Eastern region of Cameroon now has an Orange village. The infrastructure was inaugurated on October 4, 2023 by the General Director of Orange Cameroon on a three-day visit to the region. According to Patrick Benon, the Orange foundation provided a total grant of 78,907,000 FCFA for the project. An amount of 13,538,175 FCFA was also mobilized by the partner Plan international Cameroun.

Overall, this money made it possible to build a block of gender-sensitive latrines with 03 cabins (01 cabin for girls, 01 for boys and 01 for children with reduced mobility, to build offices for the school directors of the groups 1&2. We also note an allocation of 120 table-benches, drinking water points in order to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases and allow regular and safe hand washing. This project was also a question of rehabilitating 7 rooms of classes in public primary schools groups 1 and 2 of Atok and to improve reception capacities and the quality of services at the CMA of Atok. This medical center has also been equipped with specialized equipment to enable the operation of surgical equipment, the cold chain and other essential equipment through a solar installation. Of course, the village will provide training in digital tools. The project will benefit nearly 19,000 people from the communities of the district of Atok and surrounding areas. Nearly 500 students, young people, nursing staff and community health workers, women of childbearing age among others.

The Orange village concept was set up by the Orange foundation to respond to issues relating to the basic needs of populations, such as health, education and access to drinking water. The idea is to bring together all these services into a single project for the beneficiary locality. The locality of Atok thus welcomes the 7th Orange Orange village in the country. To date, 6 regions have already benefited. Bonepoupa in the Littoral, Nkolbewa in the Center, Bangou in the West, Mbang Foulbe in Adamoua, Batao in the North and Moumour in the Far North.
