BASF Coatings introduces product ranges made from recycled raw materials to the automotive refinish paint market

20.09.2024

At Automechanika 2024, BASF Coatings officially presented new product ranges. With the next generation of clear coats, the company is relying on a new technology. The product ranges, made from recycled raw materials, are intended to increase the efficiency and productivity of paint shops.

“Our vision is to support a circular economy with our exclusive Chem Cycling by reducing the use of fossil raw materials, minimizing waste and reducing CO2 emissions in the value chain,” says Chris Titmarsh, Senior Vice President, Global Automotive Refinish Coatings, BASF. “Today, we are differentiating ourselves with our new products by replacing some of the fossil resources with recycled raw materials. This is a big step towards less environmental impact, fewer emissions and less waste.”

The company’s new technology uses recycled raw materials from used tires to produce certified Ccycled products, so that they do not end up in landfills or incinerators. The Glasurit Ara Class AC-24 Eco Balance and RM Race Finish-R eSense clear coats from BASF Coatings are the manufacturer’s first automotive refinish products to use this technology.

The products also offer other advantages: The drying speed of the clear coats enables fast processing, as the coating dries in just 20 minutes at 40 °C. By reducing the drying time, energy consumption can be significantly reduced, resulting in improved efficiency and lower environmental impact. This feature is particularly beneficial for electric vehicles, as it reduces their exposure to extreme heat.
