He said in a press interview with Jordanian journalist Nadia Al-Zoubi, on the program “Al-Qarar”, that criticism of refugees is not strange, especially since host countries like Lebanon can no longer carry this burden, regarding the difficult economy. a situation that Lebanon has been going through for years.
Too much reproduction
Yakhour criticized the concept of excessive reproduction among refugees, stressing that the economic conditions do not allow refugee families to have more children, and everyone must be aware of that point, asking : “Why do we find some Syrians in refugee tents, don’t we. find anything to eat or drink, 15 to give birth to a child?”
He continued: “The man who took shelter with two children is 16, “I don’t know,” he said, “This is my opinion. Maybe I’ll find out tomorrow.”
1.5 million refugees in Lebanon
It should be noted that according to United Nations data, there are currently approximately 1.5 million Syrian refugees living in Lebanon, of which approximately 950,000 are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and are estimates that the country’s population is around six million people.
While Lebanon is suffering one of the worst economic and financial crises in the world, as the lira has lost more than 90% of its value against the dollar since 2019.
