Based on the US model, a high-rise building with 79 apartments is being built: a bit of New York in Magdeburg | Regional

100 million euros are invested

Magdeburg – This is going to be awesome! With Magdeburg’s latest high-rise project, a touch of New York is supposed to grow into the sky before the end of this year. The “M1” at the entrance to the city center is reminiscent of Manhattan’s famous “Iron” – even more so than the “Plättsteine” on Hasselbachplatz.

Only a week ago, the city council approved the first phase of the 100 million euro construction on the corner of Maxim-Gorki and Olvenstedter Straße. The Magdeburg project developer AOC is now planning the groundbreaking ceremony on the site of the former municipal baths for September.

“The 79 rental apartments with a floor space of around 5,700 square meters should be ready by the end of 2024,” company spokesman Lars-Christian Müller told BILD.

The future tallest house in the Stadtfeld district at 60 meters is to be built as the flagship of the three-part project by early 2023 at the latest. From the end of 2025, visitors to a restaurant will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the state capital from the 16th floor, which will have over 25,000 square meters of office and retail space.

According to the AOC, the 200-space underground car park will be equipped with a complete charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. In addition, sustainable building materials are to be used that still allow users to save energy.

The model is 120 years older and a good 30 meters higher than the Magdeburg “iron”. On the corner of Broadway and Fifth Avenue, the “Flatiron Building” gives its name to an entire district of Manhattan.

The 22-storey building designed by urban planner Daniel Burnham (1846 – 1912) serves almost exclusively as an office tower. Declared a National Monument in 1989, the home is one of New York City’s most photographed attractions.
