Most cycling fans know Tour de Tietema from the YouTube channel of Bas Tietema, Josse Wester and Devin van der Wiel. Out of their love for cycling, the three founded a cycling team together with sponsor Unibet at the beginning of this year.
In 2024 it will even become a ProContinental team, one level below the World Tour. But Bas Tietema will no longer be in the peloton. The Dutchman hangs up his bicycle.
“I sincerely want to take a step higher with the team, but can I handle that level? And am I ready for that? If I honestly look at myself, I have struggled quite a bit with my level this year,” he says on social media .
“There were races in which I had a very difficult time. I was unable to finish many of them. Can I continue to do that? The honest answer is: no.”
“I am quitting my professional career. I have enjoyed it immensely and I remain a huge enthusiast. I am now going to look for a different role. For example, I have already registered for the team leader course.”
