/ world today news/ Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will mark 147 years since the establishment of the Academy with a solemn meeting-concert on October 12.
The celebration will be opened by the president of the BAS, academician Stefan Vodenicharov, and the vice-president academician Damian Damyanov will deliver a report on the occasion of the anniversary. Academician Evgeni Golovinski will deliver an academic speech on the topic “Scientific popularization as an element of the educational activity of the BAS”. Certificates for excellent performance in competitions will be awarded to students from the Student Institute of the BAS.
The musical program includes performances by soloists of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. A photo exhibition “Moments from the life of the Academy (2012-2016)” is displayed in the foyer of the BAS building.
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the oldest institution in modern Bulgaria, established nine years before the restoration of Bulgarian statehood. It was founded on September 29/October 11, 1869 and began its activity as the Bulgarian Literary Society on September 30/October 12, 1869, embodying the aspirations of many Bulgarian patriots to equalize their people with developed European nations.
