The Krefeld team got off to a perfect start. Goalkeeper Bartmann made a save at the guests’ first goal throw and shortly afterwards saved their first seven-metre throw. Hahn made his first big appearance in the 12th minute, giving the Eagles a 9-7 lead with a spin, a chip and two more hits in a row. The hosts held the lead until the break. At that point, Alexander Kübler had already taken a shower and saw a red card in the 23rd minute. Too tough a decision, but one that his team-mates mentally put up with.

In the second half, too, the spectators saw a strong performance by the Yellow-Blacks, who scored four goals for the first time with a goal from “KC” Brüren (28th). Hahn then continued his goal hunt with four more goals to 24:19 (41st). In the 53rd minute, he missed a seven-goal lead. Then the resistance of the guests would have been finally broken. The preliminary decision was made four minutes later when goalkeeper Bartmann parried a free throw at the score of 32:29 and Brüren scored for Krefeld in return. Then the bell-pitched hall boiled. In the end, the Eagles celebrated this important home win together with the fans.

“We wanted to show a reaction after the Pfullingen game, and we did that. We minimized the technical errors and implemented what we worked out during the week,” said striker Hahn after the game. The team didn’t feel any pressure during training during the week. Goalkeeper Bartmann was also very satisfied afterwards: “We had the game in our hands from the start. Personally, I got into the game well. That’s better than having to fight your way in like that.”

Hanau’s coach Oliver Lücke said after the game: “It was fun to play in a full hall again. Krefeld’s victory is deserved. We pulled out everything we had in us. We can’t blame ourselves. The guys we still had pushed their performance limits.”
–
Eagles coach Maik Pallach thanked the spectators: “Thank you, it was great how you supported us. Hanau never gave up. I’m proud of my team. We always had the right answer in the back. Of course it was a real pressure game for both teams. The loser has almost no chance of getting the first two places.”
–
The fans will have to wait until after Easter for the next highlight of the promotion round. Then the top favorite Konstanz comes to the Lower Rhine. Until then, the Eagles can cure one or the other ailment. That’s why Pallach wants to reduce the training to three units this week.”
