Bart De Wever has a hard time in ‘Pieces of people’

In every episode of Pieces of people only familiar headlines pop up, each with a unique item to sell to the merchants. On Tuesday, N-VA chairman Bart De Wever (51) will make his appearance. He brings with him a rare Roman coin, which once belonged to his father. He will have a hard time during the sale. “It’s my dearest piece.”

A gold Roman coin. Nobody is surprised that Bart De Wever has one in his house. The politician wants to donate the proceeds of the sale to a good cause. Although he can hardly part with the piece. That has a lot of sentimental value to him. After all, De Wever continued the coin collection that his father once started.

“I have come to sell the piece with a great deal of doubt. When I went to get it out of the safe in the bank this morning, my heart started to break a little. Crying was closer to me than laughing. And with every meter I drove here, my courage sank a little further to distance myself from it. It’s mainly the story behind it: the connection with my own father who died quite young and of course that Roman history … it’s my most precious piece.”
