The company continues to operate in the Russian Federation and even supplied its products to a Russian confectionery factory, whose chocolate is included in the dry rations of the occupying army.
The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) included the world’s leading chocolate manufacturer, a Swiss company, in the list of international sponsors of the war Barry Callebaut.
Reports this press service NAPK.
The Agency recalled that Barry Callebaut has been working in the Russian Federation for more than 15 years and has 3 factories on its territory. In Moscow, in the Alcon business center, there is even the Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy, the second largest in the company.
While the company continues to maintain 3 factories in Russia and pay taxes to the budget of the aggressor country, from which money goes to kill Ukrainians. It also supplied its products to a Russian confectionery factory, whose chocolate is included in the rations of the occupying army.
The company produces goods under the Sicao and Chocovic brands, and also imports products under the brands Callebaut, Cacao Barry, Carma, Mona Lisa, Bensdorp, Van Hauten, La Morella. Every fourth chocolate and cocoa product in the world is made from products of this company.
Barry Callebaut continues to be an active participant in import and export transactions with Russia. In 2023, the company imported goods worth more than $94 million to the Russian market. USA, more than three times the 2022 figure. Among the imported goods are confectionery products, dry mixes, cocoa, cocoa butter, palm oil, fat from Belgium, Switzerland, Estonia, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, India, Spain.
Essential goods
After the start of the full-scale invasion, Barry Callebaut delivered chocolate to the Russian Federation under the guise of essential goods.
The company stated that the chocolate allegedly “is part of the daily diet of many”. This statement is manipulative, since, in accordance with the legislation of the aggressor country, neither chocolate nor cocoa-containing food products are classified as essential food products.
The company’s executive director, Peter Boon, for his part, made excuses that “the military operation in Ukraine was launched by the Russian government, and not by the Russian people.”
According to NAPC, Barry Callebaut continues to actively support the Russian economy and, accordingly, sponsor aggression against Ukraine. There were no attempts by the company’s management to condemn the Russian war against Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that PepsiCo banned references to the war and support for Ukraine in its advertising. Prior to this, NAPC included PepsiCo and Mars in the list of international sponsors of the war.
