Controversies between Asian countries could disrupt the pace of implementation of infrastructure projects in Russia and Iran. About this in interview Alexey Gromov, a member of the Working Group on Energy Cooperation with the BRICS Countries under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, Director for Energy at the Institute of Energy and Finance Foundation, told URA.RU.
“The main obstacle is political instability in Asia. We understand that cooperation cannot be realized without the involvement of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and a number of other states that have complex relationships with each other, or difficulties in relations with Iran,” Gromov explained. According to him, all countries in the region need to overcome political differences and realize the economic benefits of implementing joint projects.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an intergovernmental agreement with Iran on the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway told about the advantages of the North-South transport corridor. “The unique North-South transport artery, of which the Rasht-Astara railway will become a part, will help to significantly diversify global transport flows. Transportation along the new corridor will have significant competitive advantages,” the president noted then.
