Barrientos’ fate looms: the blood found in the bathroom belongs to Johana González

A little over a month after the presence of human blood was confirmed inside the bathroom of the house of Mario Barrientos, the only person arrested for the brutal murder of Johana Gonzalez (30) in Villa Seitor, it was proven that the blood found between the bidet and the toilet, as well as on an external wall, belongs to the victim. This result was achieved after DNA analysis, comparing the sample with the genetic profile of Johana’s mother.

Judicial sources indicated that, according to the Total Maternity Index, the genetic profiles obtained from the swabs collected inside the bathroom indicate that it is 537,877 times more likely that Delia Beatriz Segovia is the biological mother of the woman who provided the genetic material found. In other words, there is a coincidence of more than 99.99%.

The crime
Mario Rafael Barrientos, 42, is the main defendant in the murder of Johana González, who was arrested in Corrientes on June 2 after having escaped. Days earlier, he appeared before the prosecutor of Criminal Investigation N°5, Nelia Velázquez, claiming to be the last person who saw Johana alive. In his initial statement, he explained that he had met Johana 5 months ago, when she offered sexual services in a specific area.

The investigation progressed when, on June 1, more than 10 days after the disappearance was reported, human remains were found, including a skull, bones and viscera. With this evidence, the prosecutor ordered the arrest of Barrientos, who at that time had already been identified as the main suspect due to his last recorded contact with the victim. The arrest warrant had not been issued before because there was not enough evidence to proceed.

After his arrest, Barrientos attempted suicide, as evidenced by the cuts on his wrists, on the day he turned himself in.
