The cloud of smoke that was hanging over the state capital could be seen up to the other side of the Rhine and beyond. In a barn in the Düsseldorf district of Hamm, hay bales caught fire at noon, which then went up in smoke. According to the fire department, there had been a bang there before.
The barn burned over an area of 150 square meters. 60 firefighters were deployed to bring the fire under control. Their problem: The hydrant from which they had to draw extinguishing water was far away, which made extinguishing the fire difficult. After an hour, they had the fire under control. As a result, the smoke development has also decreased, as the Neuss colleagues observed from the other side of the Rhine:
Now the Düsseldorf firefighters are in the process of extinguishing the last embers. First balance: Two firefighters were slightly injured during the operation. Contrary to initial reports, no horses had to be taken to safety because the barn was empty. The extent of the damage is still unclear.
