Barn is on fire

The case is being updated!

The emergency services moved out on Tuesday morning to report a fire in a barn in Tønsberg. When they arrived, the building was fully ignited.

– We have just arrived and the barn is in full swing. There will be several hundred pigs in the barn, says operations manager Erik Gunnerød in the South-East police district to TV 2 at 06.40.

He says the fire department is there with a lot of people. And that emergency slaughter has been called.

Assignment manager Roger Aaser informs NTB that there is a danger that the fire may spread.

On-duty fire chief Hedin Gibbons writes on Twitter that those who were on the farm had started evacuation before the emergency services arrived at the scene.

– The smoke divers got out the last ten. The number of pigs in the barn was far lower than first reported, an estimated 40, she writes.

The fire service states that the barn has been lost, and that their efforts are to shield a home and a side building.

– The evacuated pigs are in a trolley, while some are free-ranging in the field. When the roof is now burnt off, the radiant heat is reduced and we prevent it from spreading to the home and the side building, says Hedin Gibbons.

The fire service in Vestfold writes on Twitter that there is great radiant heat at the site and that the fire has spread to vehicles.

– There were several hundred pigs in the barn, most have been evacuated. 2 smoke divers are in to try to get more out, says fire chief Rune Loraas.

The police were notified of the incident at 06.25 from people who were at the scene and discovered the fire.
