LINDESNES: – The barn was completely overheated and partially collapsed when we arrived at the scene, says Commander Torbjørn Høyland in the Fire Brigade South to Fædrelandsvennen.
The emergency services were notified of the fire in Farmoveien just north of Vigeland center at 02.19 on Sunday night. The message was that it burned heavily in a barn.
– Prevented spread
– We concentrated on the neighboring house which was six to eight meters away and managed to prevent the spread from the barn to the house, Høyland continues.
– Was there at any time a danger that the fire would spread?
– Not after we arrived at the place, but if we had not been there, the house next door would probably have caught fire, the commander-in-chief answers.
Police said earlier in the morning that the barn was completely burnt down, except for one side wall.
Something the fire department confirms.
– There is a little left of the facade towards the house, but everything is destroyed, says Høyland.
No people or animals on site
The fire brigade moved out with eight men and eventually extinguished the fire in the barn.
Parts of the crews have been extinguishing into the morning hours.
The owner of both the house and the barn had left, but confirmed to the police that there were neither animals nor people at the address.
The fire department does the same.
– There were no permanent residents at the address, which is located in an area with small farms, says Høyland.
