Valle de Santiago, Gto., March 25, 2021.- Producers dedicated to the harvest of barley, met in the demonstration plots in the municipality of Valle de Santiago to explain the sowing scheme of this grain.
The Government of the State of Guanajuato, through the Secretariat for Agrifood and Rural Development (SDAyR), in coordination with the Guanajuato Produce Foundation and the International Center for the Improvement of Maize and Wheat (CIMMYT), proposed strategies for the development of an agriculture sustainable barley in the state.
“I appreciate the participation of each one of you for getting closer and getting involved in production and sustainability. We are a work team that offer great challenges, today we position ourselves at the top of the national table for the production of barley. This is the result of their great work ”José Francisco Gutiérrez Michel, head of the SDAyR.
In a tour of the La Enmarañada property, in which authorities from the SDAyR – CIMMYT – Fundación Guanajuato Produce agencies involved participated, two-row plots were sampled, these in the Prunella and Brennus varieties.
The plots were sown using a conventional scheme, applying a density in planting, fertilization and use of fertilizers to control diseases, to obtain good barley production results.
The event featured lectures related to barley production, given by brewing groups such as Grupo Modelo and Heineken, which exposed the different production techniques, saving water and smart nutrition.
In the 2020 agricultural cycle, Guanajuato was positioned in the first place at the national level for the production of more than 279 thousand 868 tons of this product..
