“I’ll have you follow Cédric. He moved to Paris some time ago, thinking he would find success there, but the capital will devour him.” He says it himself “it’s not the easiest way to get started”, but he thinks he has taken up the challenge.
“Digging into human thought”
“I chose this theme because I wanted to show that our society is only shades of darkness. To dig into human thought and question the reader’s gaze on the play of appearances. I am addressing several taboos, such as the place of prostitutes in our society, the relationship to sexuality. “
This novel marks a turning point in the life of the 25-year-old author, a baker by trade.
“It’s my return to the source, to art!”
Because before opening his business, Gaëtan Ballester studied art history.
“I always wanted to create. I was part of the photo club at Lycée Jean-Moulin in Draguignan, I drew nudes in Aix, I wrote short stories, did theater. But I felt like I wasn’t in my place.”
“Share the adventure with the readers”
Son of traders, he finally decides to follow in their footsteps and retrain. “What has helped me return to writing is to look at the universe of the book as a whole.”
He creates his Instagram account (2) where he meets authors and proofreaders.
“I also talk about what it costs to be an author, what you earn.” A virtual experience that allows him to make his place in the literary community of social networks.
“I launched this adventure in parallel with writing my novel. And it helped me a lot! I was able to share my doubts, take advice …” Gaëtan Ballester understands that the image of the isolated writer he has shaped in his head is far from reality.
“I was not at all alone during this process. I want to share this adventure with the readers all the more from now on. Because it must be said, we write to be read and to finish this chapter with them. “
So meet this Saturday at the “Lo Pais” bookstore (3) from 10 am to 7 pm to chat with Gaëtan Ballester and request a dedication.
