It is the fifteenth consecutive day that occupancy in hospitals has increased. In mid-July, just over 200 corona patients were in an intensive care unit or nursing unit.
There are now 465 corona patients in the nursing wards, 8 more than on Tuesday. The number of patients on ICUs increased by 5 to 164.
The number of new admissions also continues to rise. In the past 24 hours, 119 people ended up in an intensive care unit or nursing unit because of corona. That is the highest number since the end of May.
According to figures from the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS), 660 new corona patients have been admitted in the past seven days, an average of about 94 per day. That average is rising for the twentieth day in a row.
Due to the increasing pressure on hospitals, the first corona patients were moved to other regions on Monday, after a break of more than a month. The spread should distribute the pressure evenly.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte expects the pressure on hospitals to stop next week. This is because the number of positive corona tests has been falling since last week.
