Bård Ylvisåker, Vegard Ylvisåker | Appeared in star-studded Super Bowl ad: Refuses to reveal price tag

Brothers Bård (40) and Vegard Ylvisåker’s (43) ten-year-old global hit “The Fox” appeared last week in a commercial for Uber One, which is Uber’s benefits club.

The commercial was made in connection with this year’s Super Bowl event and will be shown during Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, in what will probably be the year’s most expensive advertising break. The Super Bowl is well known for its advertising show and that is rumored to be the case this year as well.

On Friday evening, the Humor Prize 2022 was announced, and among other things, the series “Ylvis i Sogn” was nominated in the “funniest entertainment program” category.

Bård Ylvisåker appeared on the occasion, and above Nettavisen he shared more details about how he and his older brother ended up in the one-minute commercial.

– It’s an adventure to be part of, says Bård Ylvisåker.

Unique offer

The brothers from Bergen are in good company in the Super Bowl commercial, the rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, and the singers Haddaway and Kelis can also be seen in the commercial for Uber.

“Diddy, I don’t care about this any more,” Vegard Ylvisåker can be heard saying in the commercial, in Norwegian.

There is no doubt that the pair of brothers were proud to be part of the world-famous advertisement, and that the whole thing was a surreal experience.

– The gods know what happened. Suddenly you’re standing in a studio with P-Diddy and Haddaway, and you just have to laugh your head off, says Ylvisåker jokingly.

He goes on to say that they don’t always answer when the phone rings, but during their careers they have learned which assignments to accept. The Super Bowl mission is a good example.

– When the Super Bowl rings, you just have to answer yes, says the 40-year-old to Nettavisen.

Cryptic about the Super Bowl salary

It is well known that you can earn quite well by appearing in Super Bowl commercials, and there is no doubt that it is lucrative for advertisers.

According to Ylvisåker, he and his brother were flown to Los Angeles from Norway, but he will not reveal exactly how much they have earned from the well-known advertisement.

– Fortunately, we don’t know that yet. It’s the same for me, we join for free.

– Did you earn over one million?

– Can’t reveal it. I wouldn’t have revealed it if I knew either. That’s not what it’s about, it’s about having fun, says Ylvisåker.

Recorded in the music legend’s studio

In the Super Bowl commercial, the Ylvis brothers are seen singing their world-famous “The Fox” in a music studio, and Bård Ylvisåker reveals that it wasn’t just any studio they were in – it was the same studio where the recording of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” from 1982 took place.

That must have been part of the motivation for apparently accepting an allegedly free advertising job.

– If we can be flown in and record in Michael Jackson’s studio where “Thriller” was recorded, then I will gladly do it for free! But if the Super Bowl will get some money out of it, top.

Furthermore, there is no doubt that a lot of money is invested in such productions, also in the Uber commercial in which the Ylvis brothers are involved.

– There are insane budgets for such things. When Vegard and I got there and were in a small trailer and being driven in a small car, even though it’s 30 meters to walk, and there are so many people. That’s where the money goes.
