Tottenham Hotspur are considering Barcelona’s Matteo Alemany as their new director of football as soon as he becomes available in September.
Alemany has been part of the Catalan team’s squad for two years, but will leave his position on September 2 at the close of the summer transfer market. Former midfielder Deco will replace him as Barcelona sporting director.
New reports now suggest that Alemany, 60, is one of the frontrunners to become Tottenham’s director of football, taking over from Fabio Paratici.

Paratici has resigned as Tottenham’s general manager after being banned for two and a half years by FIFA. For his role in alleged financial irregularities related to his time at Juventus.

In June, it was reported that Paracchi continued to advise the north London club despite the sanction imposed by world soccer’s governing body, with FIFA lifting parts of its ban to allow advisory work.
Alemany was close to signing for Aston Villa in June, but U changed his plan to stay at Barcelona. Since he took over in 2021, he has been crucial in laying the foundation that led the Catalan giants to the La Liga title earlier this year.
He previously held the position of president of Real Mallorca after years of service to the club, as well as general manager of Valencia CF between 2017 and 2019.
Now the Barcelona passer could finally make it to the Premier League as he has been tasked with leading Tottenham to a similar level of success as the Catalan giants enjoyed last season.
Deco was confirmed as Barcelona’s new permanent sporting director on Tuesday in a major overhaul of the club’s management structure. The former midfielder joined Barcelona in 2004 and won the Champions League and two La Liga cups in his four-year spell.
