Barcelona taxi drivers reach a sector regulation pact for the month of August
100% of the taxi drivers associations in the Barcelona metropolitan area and 90% of the taxi intermediation companies have reached a “historic sectorial pact”.
Due to the lack of regulation of the sector, due to the exceptional conditions due to the coronavirus, by the administrations, the sector has come together to reach a “self-regulation” pact.
«… after many hours of trying to give a better solution to the current emergency situation that the sector is experiencing in terms of regulation, we have agreed the following:
On Saturdays and Sundays, 50% of the total taxi fleet will be able to go to work
every day, as established by the metropolitan taxi regulations ».
This is the statement launched by the associations of the taxi sector in Barcelona and to which Todo Taxi has had access first thing in the morning.
Likewise, the Metropolitan Taxi Institute (IMET), following the recommendations of the entire sector, has informed Taxi professionals from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) of the new agreement.
The regulation of the sector in Barcelona is something that taxi drivers have been fighting for since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
The lack of demand for the taxi due to restrictions, lack of tourists, closing of shops and the rise in teleworking, has led to a crisis in the sector like never before.
Taxis are running around the city all day empty trying to attract a customer, which makes spending so many hours behind the wheel unbearable, in addition to the risk of coronavirus infections.
