Rakuten, sponsor Barcelona speak up about the dragging issue of racism Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. Rakuten asserted, the action was unacceptable.
Griezmann and Dembele were accused of mocking Asians after two videos from 2019 surfaced online recently. The videos appear to have been taken while Barcelona were on their pre-season tour of Japan.
The first video shows Griezmann in a hotel room which appears to have been recorded by Dembele. In the video, several hotel staff are trying to repair the television used by the front two Barcelona it plays the game Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).
Then Dembele was heard mentioning ugly faces and backward language, even questioning whether Japan was a developed country or not. While the second video shows Griezmann taking an ice bath with Dembele and Samuel Umtiti. The French striker then shouted using language that was considered racist.
After being crowded in the media, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele both apologize. However, the two did not deny the allegations of racism.
Rakuten, the sponsor of the Barcelona shirt, did not hesitate to criticize the behavior of the French duo. Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani said his party would file a complaint with Barcelona directly.
“As a club sponsor and tour organizer, I deeply regret that FCB players made discriminatory comments,” Mikitani tweeted. the Athletic.
“Given that Rakuten supports the philosophy Barcelona and sponsoring the club, such statements are unacceptable under any circumstances and we will formally protest to the club and seek their views.”
