Barcelona rectifies and modifies the Horta superblock, the most unknown in the city

Barcelona City Council will change the direction of traffic in the Campoamor streets (between Lloret de Mar and Estatut Avenue) and Edward Toda (between Lloret de Mar and Paseo de Valldaura) at the end of October to correct some malfunctions that have been occurring since the implementation of the superblock in the old centre of Horta.

The main problem was that the change of direction on Campoamor Street, which was previously uphill and connected with the Ronda de Dalthas caused the Saturation of Lloret and Eduard Toda streets since the change was implemented, in 2021. In view of complaints from residents, the council has decided to rectify and return to the original direction of the march.

For this reason, the City Council has put out to tender the project to carry out these modifications, which will be carried out in mid-September and will last between 4 and 5 weeks, with a budget of 80.000 euroshas reported the district councillor, Luis Rabellthis Wednesday at a press conference.

Thus, in both cases, the direction of traffic will be reversed to the current one: in the Campoamor Street Vehicles will circulate in the direction of Estatut Avenue, while in Edward Toda They will begin to circulate from Valldaura promenade towards Lloret de Mar.

A will be established left turn on Estatut Avenue with Campoamor and the vehicle traffic lane will be moved to the east side of the street, so that the bike lane (which will be in an upward direction) will also change sides, passing to the Llobregat side.

On Campoamor Street, the roadway will have a space of 3.5 metres wide for vehicles, a space of 1.5 metres for bicycles and a service curb (on the opposite side) of 1.9 metres wide.

On Eduard Street The entire intervention only involves changing the direction of vehicles and the Bus stop modification of line 185, currently located on this street, and which will now be located on Campoamor Street, which will create five parking spaces at this point.

On the other hand, the 185 route in a northerly direction will be moved from the intersection with Lloret de Mar street to Campoamor to continue along Estatut avenue and Valldaura promenade, and the boarding platform at the stop will also change location.

The Horta superblock is one of the least known in the Catalan capital. Unlike other more famous superblocks such as Sant Antoni or Poblenou, the urban transformation in this area of Horta, designed to give priority to pedestrian and green spaces, has gone more unnoticed and has not resonated as much beyond its own district.
