Barcelona Raises Nearly 1.5 Billion Euros for Camp Nou Renovation Project

O Barcelona raised nearly 1.5 billion euros (8.34 billion reais in current figures) through funding to carry out the renovation of Spotify Camp Nou, as announced by the club on Monday (24).

O Barça had set an initial deadline of March 31 to finalize financing for the project, but a rise in global interest rates delayed the final stages of negotiations.

There are 20 investors involved to raise the amount needed for the works, which will see the club’s historic stadium and its surroundings completely redeveloped.

the leaders of The league stressed that “the club’s assets have not been used as collateral and no mortgage has been taken on the stadium”, following recent reports that they would have to make concessions to seal the financing.

“(The money is repayable) in different installments payable gradually over five, seven, nine, 20 and 24 years, with a flexible structure, including a grace period,” it said in a statement.

“The club will begin to amortise the operation as soon as the stadium works are completed, with the income generated by the Camp Nou. »

O Blaugrana also confirmed that Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, JLL, Perez-Llorca, FOR Piper, Main capital partners, Legends e IPG 360 are part of the investors.

The renovation of the Camp Nou has already started, increasing the stadium’s capacity by 5,000 seats. It will accelerate once the current European season is over, with the Barça start playing their matches at the Olympic Stadium from 2023/04, with a capacity of just over 50,000 fans, in the Montjuic area.

They hope to be back at Camp Nou in November 2024, coinciding with the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations, although work will continue until 2026.

The project of Barça will transform the Camp Nou into a 105,000 seat stadium which they say will be “state of the art”.

The Camp Nou opened in 1957 and is still the biggest in Europe, but the 65-year-old stadium needs a makeover.

Major site renovation projects were first approved by members of the Barça in 2014, but due to a host of issues the club were only able to complete a small portion of the proposed works, which were also changed over the years by the new board.

The new Camp Nou will have a retractable roof covered with 30,000 square meters of solar panels. This energy will be used to power the new 360 degree screen which will operate throughout the stadium interior, in addition to various security systems. In another effort to improve soil sustainability, rainwater will also be collected and recycled.

Outside, the esplanade will feature a series of new office complexes and green spaces, as well as an on-site hotel, event spaces, an ice rink and the Palau Blaugrana, a smaller pavilion that mainly houses the basketball team. .
