Xavi Hernández has already achieved the greatest piece in the remodeling of medical services. The return of the doctor Ricard Pruna completes a revolution that has ended with a total of nine casualties in this department, some as prominent as the first team’s chief medical officer, Lluís Til, the head of physiotherapy, Juanjo Brau, and the club’s coordinator of physical trainers, Juan Ramon Tarrago.
Pruna closed its agreement with FC Barcelona on Thursday night, although he still has some fringes to close with his current club, Sharjah of the Emirates. In fact, as AS has learned, their incorporation will not be immediate, since he still has to wait for the Arab club to find a medical officer and for Pruna to give him a background on his new position. Hence, everything indicates that his definitive return will be consummated in about fifteen days, after the friendly against Boca Juniors, which is played on December 14 in Saudi Arabia.

Pruna will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract, until June 30, 2024, as a sign of loyalty to Xavi Hernández’s project, which also ends its contract on this date. Barcelona offered him the possibility of a longer relationship with the entity, but the doctor has once again shown his absolute loyalty to the Blaugrana coach, joining his project with all the consequences.
Pruna will assume the position of chief medical officer of the first team, with absolute autonomy in decision-making and without having to consult with the head of the club’s department, Ramon Canal. The desire, both of Pruna and Canal, is to regain harmony, at least professionally, but we must not forget that the doctor left just over a year ago due to manifest differences with the club’s management.
One of Xavi’s unavoidable requests was the return of Pruna, whom he described as “the best doctor I have had at Barcelona”, underlining as “a serious mistake” his departure from the club. The doctor, who signed for Sharjah last June, has had to ‘sweat’ blood to dissociate himself from his current club. In fact, it had an exit clause, but finally the entity has agreed to reduce it substantially.
