Barcelona president Joan Laporta is on a personal mission to make a galactic signing this summer, and is reported to have set his sights on a deal to bring in Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s future at Old Trafford has been the subject of many spine inches in recent years. The French international has seemed on the verge of leaving many times just to find some form and show commitment to the club. But, after a stellar performance for Les Bleus at Euro 2020, his name has come up again as a possible United exit.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be eager to get there before the start of next season. And it was reported earlier this week that their representatives have started talking to the French giants about a possible transfer.
He has also been linked to Real Madrid, while a return to Juventus has also been considered.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta is desperate to take Pogba to the Camp Nou. Under the headline, ‘Barça wants to sign a beast for the media’, they say that Laporta is desperate to make a transfer to win over the press.
And with 12 months remaining on his contract, Laporta is said to be confident of bringing the Frenchman to Old Trafford.
However, with scarce funds, Barcelona seek to be creative in their efforts to sign the winner of the World Cup.
In fact, they claim that Barcelona is willing to offer United two of Pogba’s international teammates to get the deal done.
Through the Daily Express, it is suggested that Barça have put Samuel Umtiti and Antoine Griezmann for the Red Devils.
The duo have long-standing transfer partnerships with United. In fact, Griezmann came close to moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2017, even rating those prospects in a TV interview.
Meanwhile, Umtiti has also been touted as a possible United signing in the past. Harassed lately by knee problems, the defender appears to have lost his way. And it seems unlikely that United will have an interest now, given his persecution by Raphael Varane.
Two Barcelona players with whom United has also been linked in recent times are Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati.
However, Laporta now wishes to sell either one and the pair is said to be off the list of players that Barcelona would sacrifice.
Declan Rice is likely to stay in West Ham, and here’s why
Sheringham wants to sell Pogba
With Pogbathe future continues to generate news, One man who thinks United should sell is Teddy Sheringham.
The 55-year-old spent four seasons at the Theater of Dreams and walked away with multiple trophies. He was part of the famous team that won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League in 1998-1999.
And in total, the former England striker collected three Premier League winner medals. He remains a keen observer of all things United.
And the former Tottenham leader did not criticize his take on the schemer.
“It’s a funny situation, isn’t it?” he told The United Stand. “He has one year left and he could go out for free and make an absolute fortune. As if they don’t make enough money now!
“I think if United or Ole have vibes, that’s what he was trying to do, I’m sure he would try to sell it now. They need to get everything they can for him.
“If that’s the right thing or the wrong thing. Sometimes he has played in the center of the field and other times he has been left out. But if you are an elite player, you are not left out «.
