Barcelona Lost, Gerard Pique Injured

Defeat from Atletico Madrid leaving bad news for Barcelona. Barcelona is likely to lose Gerard Pique for a while due to an injury.

Barcelona collapsed during a visit to Atletico headquarters in 10th jornada Spanish League. Compete at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Sunday (11/22/2020) early morning WIB, Blaugrana lost 0-1.

Pique, who played as a starter in the match, could not finish the match. The 33-year-old defender was pulled out in the 62nd minute and was replaced by Sergino Dest.

Pique had to leave the match with a knee injury after colliding with Angel Correa, who then fell onto the Barcelona defender’s feet. Pique looked in pain and immediately raised his hand as a sign asking to be replaced.

Seeing the reaction on the pitch, Pique was feared that he had a serious knee injury. However, Barcelona later released a statement that Pique sprained his right knee.

“Gerard Pique sprained his right knee. The Barca center-back is waiting for further tests to confirm the extent of his injury after a collision with Atletico striker Correa forced him to leave the pitch after an hour,” said a Barcelona statement on its official website.

Pique will undergo further tests on Sunday (11/22/2020) local time. Initial predictions said that the former Manchester United player would be out for one month.

Pique’s injury is certainly bad news for Ronald Koeman. Another Barcelona defender, Samuel Umtiti and Ronald Araujo, are also injured. A central defender who is fit in the Barcelona first team has only Clement Lenglet left.

The defeat to Atletico made Barcelona still struggling in the middle of the Spanish League standings. Lionel Messi et al stuck in 10th place with 11 points from eight matches, nine points behind Real Sociedad at the top.
