The two clubs announced on Friday that the 21-year-old player has signed a contract with the Catalan club until 2026.

Barcelona could not sign Araújo on the last day of the winter transfer window because, as sporting director Mateu Alemany said, a system error delayed the registration of the paperwork by 18 seconds. Then Barcelona turned to the international Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and now the transfer could take place.

Araujo transferred to the Los Angeles Galaxy in March 2019, for which he has since played 108 matches, provided 20 assists and scored twice.

The California-born quarterback played in the United States’ age-group national teams, and in December 2020 he also made his debut in the senior team. In the year 2021, he submitted an application to the international federation (FIFA) to play in the national team of Mexico, and he made his debut in the national team of the Central American country in December 2021 in a friendly match against Chile.
