Barcelonaher Xavi Hernandez definitely untitled this season. Even so Xavi insisted, Barca had improved a lot since he coached.
Xavi was appointed to replace Ronald Koeman as Barca coach in November. Xavi has led in 33 matches across all competitions with 18 wins, eight draws and seven defeats.
In the process Xavi failed to save Barcelona from elimination in the group stages of the Champions League, and was knocked out in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey. However, Barcelona managed to return to the top flight of LaLiga despite being 15 points away from Real Madrid, who had already locked the title.
“We’ve improved a lot since I joined the team in November,” said Xavi from Brand. “We have played well in many games. We have had many good results but this is a process and now we have to qualify for the Champions League. We are working hard.”
“I try to give confidence to the players and we want them to improve. Most have improved, in terms of play and understanding. The Barcelona shirt is heavy, there is pressure.”
“It’s not just about winning but [juga] play well and convincingly. This is a tough environment. You are there, there is pressure. This is an advantage, you have to look for it,” added Xavi.
Barcelona currently sits in second place in the Spanish League standings with 66 points, two points ahead of Sevilla (3) and five points from Atletico Madrid (4). Barca have four matches remaining, starting from away at Real Betis (8/5), followed by Celta Vigo (11/5), Getafe (15/5), and closing at home to Villarreal at Camp Nou (22/5).
