Barcelona-Estació de França hosts an exhibition on metastatic triple negative breast cancer

Barcelona-Estació de França hosts ‘Pictures with Hope’, the exhibition promoted by Gilead Sciences that combines Artificial Intelligence, robotics and art to raise awareness about metastatic triple negative breast cancer.

The company explained that ‘Cuadros con Esperanza’, “the artistic experience promoted by Gilead Sciences as part of its commitment to research and to patients with metastatic triple negative breast cancer (CMTNm), revisits Barcelona as part of its tour of various train stations.

On this occasion, the place is Barcelona-Estació de França, where the exhibition can be visited from February 18 to March 3 in order to give greater visibility to the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat subtype of breast carcinomas.

CMTNm still has no cure and patients demand greater support for research and innovation to solve this disease in which only 12% of patients survive five years.

For this reason, the exhibition ‘Pictures with Hope’ seeks, through art, to remember the existence of this pathology and to focus on the emotional impact that research and innovation has on people with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer.

In this way, by applying state-of-the-art technology such as data visualization, artificial intelligence and robotics to art, ‘Cuadros con Esperanza’ has managed to capture and transform the emotions of three patients with triple breast cancer into nine digital illustrations. negative when discussing their disease and addressing issues such as diagnosis, acceptance and innovation.

“Metastatic triple negative is the subtype with the worst prognosis of all types of breast cancer, where there is no pink ribbon. The patients are young, have an active life, family and work; women for whom every day counts, for whom options are very limited.

“At Gilead we research tirelessly in order to develop innovations that allow us to offer solutions and hope to these women who cannot wait, change their prognosis, and collaborate with all the agents involved so that innovation reaches patients quickly,” said David Marin, a senior BUD Oncology at Gilead.

People with this complex cancer lack the three most common hormone receptors associated with breast tumors and, as a result, are not eligible for treatment with hormone therapy.

In the words of Pilar Fernández, president of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association, “metastatic triple negative is largely forgotten in the social discourse on breast cancer and we need to give visibility to this advanced phase of the disease for which the figures are unknown or the great impact that this tumor has on the lives of patients. We depend on the research moving forward because the survival and quality of life of these patients depends on these innovations and that these reach the patients in an equitable manner”, and recalls that the impact of her diagnosis marks a before and after in the women who suffer from it.

‘Cuadros con Esperanza’ is traveling around the world thanks to its exhibition in iconic train stations such as Madrid-Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes, València Estació del Nord or Málaga María Zambrano, and very soon it will be in Seville Santa Justa, within the framework of the Adif Open Station Program. An initiative aimed at developing cultural, social and environmental actions in railway stations managed by Adif, always under criteria of social responsibility and without commercial purposes.

In a second phase of the ‘Paintings with Hope’ initiative, and in front of the paintings made with Artificial Intelligence, renowned Spanish artists will be inspired by the testimonies of the three leading patients to interpret and capture, with their own style, the emotions and the effect that metastatic triple negative breast cancer has had on your life. To promote knowledge about this disease, all the works will be exhibited at a public auction and the proceeds will go to finance a research project on metastatic triple negative breast cancer.

breast cancer

In Spain, 34,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year and it is estimated that around 12-15% of them are triple negative. Within these, metastatic triple negative, which mainly affects young and premenopausal women, is the most aggressive subtype and only 12% of women who suffer from it survive five years.

There is still no cure for metastatic triple negative and the therapeutic alternatives available are limited. Faced with the challenge of making this disease chronic, patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer demand a greater commitment to innovation, facilitate access to new therapeutic options or promote prevention campaigns.
