Barcelona have been linked to a decision made by Bayern Munich defender David Alaba but are likely to drop the lawsuit due to financial difficulties. Lionel Messi Transfer News Update: Planning contract offer from Joan Laporta for Barcelona Skipper.
David Alaba’s contract with Bayern Munich ends on June 30, 2021 and the defender has refused to sign a new deal that will see him as a free agent this summer. Barcelona love the Austrian for his versatility but the club’s financial constraints could see him pull out of the race for the defender, according to data Sport.
According to the publication, Barcelona’s needs in other areas could lead them to withdraw from the David Alaba race as well. The Catalans are looking for a striker and are linked to a number of players including Borussia Dortmund starlet Erling Haaland. Sergio Aguero leaves Manchester City: the best clubs to sign the Argentine striker this summer.
It is understood that David is asking Alaba for a multi-million dollar deal to sign a deal with the Catalans, making him one of the highest paid players on the team, but Barcelona cannot afford the salaries. The Blaugranas need the 28-year-old to cut his salary or to sell a key player to meet Austrian demand.
Additionally, Joan Laporta and members of her board of directors are looking for ways to reduce the current team’s payroll due to massive debt. Several players have agreed to a wage cut as part of the coronavirus pandemic, but the club’s hierarchy is believed to be looking to lower several players’ salaries as well.
