The list is completed with the confirmation of the teams from Germany, Sweden and Australiawho will join the six official entries for the Copa América (New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, the United States and France), and the formations, which were already registered, from Spain, the Netherlands and Canada.
All the teams are immersed in the planning and selection tests for their youth and women’s squads. As to Spain is in group B and in the qualifying series (six to nine fleet regattas will be held) they will face the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Sweden and Australia. In the other group, A, are the six from the Copa América: New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, the United States and France. In this first phase, each one of the sleeves will count to decide the three best teams of each group (A and B) that will qualify for the Final Series. Here another series of regattas will be completed between the six teams of up to four races and the two best in the youth and women’s categories will qualify for the Grand Final, which will be decided by a regatta in which the crews will compete head to head in a decisive Match Race that will determine the winner of each category.

Thanks to these women’s and youth Copa América, sailing legends will also be seen, such as John Bertrandthe legendary winning skipper in the 1983 campaign of the Australia IIwho turned the tide of the America’s Cup after 132 years of American dominance, who will be one of the patrons of the new Team Australia Challenge on behalf of the Cruising Club of Australia. “I am delighted to come on board as Patron of Team Australia Challenge. Rarely do you have the opportunity to present our country on the world scene like now. That our women and our youth are represented at the Copa América marks the beginning of a new era. We are facing a challenge of national importance,” she commented.
But without a doubt, one of the teams that will focus the most attention on Barcelona will be the Spanish, with Sail Team BCN. Its director, Guillermo Altadill, continues to work on the identification of candidates to fill the places in the youth and women’s teams and commented that “we want to find the right moment, neither too soon nor too late, to make the last selection and be able to count on 16 sailors (eight juniors and eight women) and, when they are free from their Olympic obligations, start training on different boats with foils until we have access to the AC40. As the host team and representative of the country, we have an obligation and the formula to fulfill it is very simple: we need to have a good budget, train hard and have a high quality crew”. Some of the women who have many numbers to be part of this women’s team are, if their commitments finally allow it, Támara Echegoyen, Paula Barceló, Nora Brugman and Tara Pacheco.
