The disappointment over the knockout round in the Champions League is great in the camp of FC Barcelona – but also the anger over the referees.
The 1-1 draw in the second leg at PSG was far too little for the hoped-for Remontada after the 4-1 defeat in the first leg. One scene causes a lot of trouble for the Catalans: It’s about the penalty that Lionel Messi missed in stoppage time in the first half and could have led to the interim 2-1 for Barça. As TV pictures clearly show, PSG professional Marco Verratti stormed into the penalty area prematurely. The penalty kick should have been repeated accordingly. The video referee did not intervene, however. “One of the biggest mistakes of the VAR!” Says Iturralde Gonzalez, former top Spanish referee at the “AS”.
