A recent report suggested that Frenkie de Jong could consider his future at Barcelona next summer, given his ongoing problems with the management, which have recently become more serious as de Jong refuses to undergo surgery on the foot injury that has kept him out of action since April.
Manchester United, a long-time admirer of the Dutchman, have been linked with him again, but Deco stressed that FC Barcelona do not want to buy the Dutchman.
“I don’t understand all this talk about Frenkie,” said Deco. “He has a contract at Barça and we are very happy with him. He is a player we definitely want to see back because we need Frenkie.”
“We want him to stay, but the player will decide in due course. That is not important at the moment. What matters is that Frenkie can play again because we need him and value him very much.”
Former FC Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font recently claimed to have spoken to De Jong and said that the midfielder’s reluctance to undergo foot surgery was due to the club’s inability to guarantee that such an operation would have the desired effect.
Barcelona have reportedly warned De Jong that he will have to declare himself fit soon if he continues to refuse surgery, but the Dutch international is expected to wait until he feels 100% fit before making his comeback.
