Announced on the departure last summer, Frenkie de Jong had done everything to stay at FC Barcelona despite the financial difficulties of the blaugrana club. The Dutch international assumes this choice and has absolutely no regrets.

Under contract until June 2026 with the Catalan club, the former player of Ajax Amsterdam is still very happy in Barcelona and seems to want to register for the duration with the Blaugranas. Approached very insistently by Manchester United during the last summer transfer window, De Jong had politely failed the Red Devils and Erik Ten Hag with the firm intention of proving to his management that he was an indispensable element of Xavi’s affections.
An assumed choice
The Dutch midfielder, who gave an interview with Catalan radio RAC1justified his choice of career. Last summer, I was calm because I knew I wanted to continue at Barça, and I didn’t change my mind. I always dreamed of playing for this club and I want to succeed here, he explained. In recent seasons, PSG had also been interested in the profile of the midfielder from the Netherlands without actually taking action.
Xavi trusts him
One thing is certain, the FC Barcelona coach is still counting on De Jong, considered an indisputable starter despite big competition in the midfield. “I am very happy, at ease, and I participate more in the game. Xavi helps me a lot. Then I have never won the championship since my arrival 4 years ago, I have never been so close to doing so even if there is still a long way to go. If we win the three titles in Spain, it would be an extraordinary season (the Spanish Super Cup has already been won). Regarding the Champions League, I expected to go further, for sure, we will see next season”, he concluded.
