Barbora Krejčíková (28) will play in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam events exactly after two years. The former French Open champion found a recipe for Mirra Andrejevová (16) on the third try, she defeated the Russian comet 4:6, 6:3, 6:2 and showed her third turnaround in the last week. She will fight for the second career semi-final at the Big Four events with defending champion Aryna Sabalenko (25).
Andrejevová – Krejčíková 6:4, 3:6, 2:6
Barbora Krejčíková experienced a series of disappointments and early eliminations during last season, but she made four finals and dominated events in San Diego and Dubai. In the United Arab Emirates, she defeated the world number one, two and three and took the first title from the prestigious “thousands”. It also presents itself in an unstable form at the beginning of this year.
She entered the new season with a defeat against Anna Kalinska in Adelaide and almost had her in the first round of the Australian Open. She overcame a set and break deficit against Mai Hontama, and she also had to deal with the unfavorable development against domestic qualifier Storm Hunter and in Sunday’s round of 16 with only 16-year-old Russian comet Mirra Andrejeva. She recorded a problem-free win only in the second round with Tamara Korpatschová.

Her performance in the opening act could be described as a festival of unforced errors. Krejčíková committed a total of 21 misses and hit only four winning shots. However, in the following two sets, she adjusted her sights, was clearly the better player and finally ended the match with a solid ratio of 32 winners and 39 errors.
She broke the match for her side in the middle of the second set. Although she lost the 2:0 lead, she dominated from the fifth game on. In the decisive action, last year’s junior finalist, who a few weeks ago played her first quarterfinal on the highest circuit and was now attacking the premier grand slams, did not allow a single break point opportunity.
She lost both of her previous fights with Andrejeva. Last year at Wimbledon, she had to give up due to an ankle injury and did not play a set even later in Beijing, where she took only four games from one of the most talented teenagers.

Krejčíková, who is playing in the second week of the Australian Open for the third year in a row, made it to the quarterfinals of the Grand Slams for the fourth time in her career and exactly after two years. She only succeeded in the first one at the French Open 2021, where she sensationally triumphed. On the other hand, she had to accept a clear defeat against Madison Keys the year before in Melbourne Park and Aryna Sabalenkova at the US Open 2021.
Sabalenková will be her next opponent. Belarus still hasn’t lost a set and continues to defend the title. Krejčíková and Sabalenková played six fights together, and the Czech only rejoiced last year in Dubai, where she turned around an almost hopeless situation and knocked herself out of the canary. They met four times last year and Sabalenkova had the upper hand in Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart after the Dubai encounter.
Linda Nosková will try to replace Krejčíková in the quarter-final stage on Monday. The Czech teenager will try to follow up on the scalp of world number one Iga Šwiateková in a duel with Elina Svitolina.
