The president of the Principality from Asturias, Adrián Barbón, has appeared this Friday to analyze the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus in the region. Complicated days are coming in the middle of the third wave and the Asturian maximum leader has warned the population with a view to the next spring ‘vacation’ season: the Easter week.
Barbón has recognized that “We have one month left in February that can be dramatic”. “We have to avoid sanitary collapse, that is the challenge, there are spaces that make us more vulnerable to infections, closed and poorly ventilated spaces and if we remove our mask, even more risk”, added the president.
Likewise, he reiterated that “February will be a critical month. There is an incidence accumulated at 14 days 652 cases per 100,000 inhabitants already seven days of 308 “.
That is why in the Government “we are very concerned the entrance of the british strain. We would already be talking about 40% of infections in the region. And soon it will be the majority nationwide. “
Asturias will keep the perimeter closure of the community and Barbón has made a clear warning with a view to what is to come: “If we want to descend to objective levels, we need to sacrifice Holy Week. We cannot live Easter as we have lived Christmas “.
“If we do not want there to be a fourth wave, logically there is no other than to sacrifice Holy Week,” insisted Barbón, who has advanced that current restrictions will not be tightened for the moment: “Beyond those tougher measures that are already being applied in the Avilés region.”
With respect to perimeter closures has clarified that “they were not as effective as we thought in the second wave, that they were without more perimeter closures”. “The difference is that in this third wave the perimeter closure is accompanied by other measures such as the closure of the interior of the hotel establishments. Now it is having positive effects.”
