“Barbie” will soon join the list of films that have grossed more than one billion dollars at the box office. The film by director Greta Gerwig, 40, has now cleared the next hurdle on the way there.

In North America alone, “Barbie” brought in more than 400 million US dollars after exactly two weeks, reports the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter”. Never before has a Warner Bros. film achieved such a box office result so quickly.
If you now add the international earnings, “Barbie” is now more than 900 million US dollars. The trade journal predicts that production will break the billion mark by Sunday or early next week at the latest.

Barbie star Margot Robbie, 33, who is also a producer, predicted the film would gross $1 billion from the start, although she wasn’t entirely sure. The Australian actress, who is partnered by Ryan Gosling, 42, as Ken in the film, had revealed in an interview with “Collider” in July.
In a meeting, she emphasized that, in her view, film studios would have a lot of success if they were only brave enough to combine “a great idea with a visionary director”.
